Since
1991, Pennsylvania's Hunters Sharing the Harvest (HSH) has
channeled hunter's donations of venison to local food banks,
soup kitchens, and needy families, via an integrated network
of local contacts and cooperating butcher shops. These donations
have literally provided hundreds of thousands of meals to
needy Pennsylvanians.
As a tax-exempt
501(c)(3) entity, HSH is experiencing a significant organizational
expansion designed to yield greater venison-sharing outreach
results through our network of local coordinators and processors.
Building a solid and recurring financial base for processor
reimbursements has been and continues to be a first priority.
From its
inception, the HSH program has called upon hunters with extra
venison to donate it and pay all or part of the processing
fee. These donations, combined with the financial assistance
of our sponsors, are what makes the entire process possible.
HSH encourages hunters to consider donating their second or
third deer of the season, but also to consider smaller donations
from any deer harvested.
More than
15 new volunteer area coordinators from many key areas of
Pennsylvania have been recruited to enable the program to
better serve its recipients. The HSH team now has more than
60 area coordinators who provide information to hunters and
coordinate the involvement of participating butchers.
The official registration and
financial information of the Pennsylvanians for the Responsible
Use of Animals may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department
of State by calling toll free, within Pennsylvania, 1-800-732-0999.
